Videogames: dirty, analog and degenerate. Here is the future in Cyberpunk 2077

We tried the most anticipated game of this Christmas on PC. Certainly the most ambitious RPG ever

Eight years of waiting, three postponements and then the accusations of extraordinary employee savages: Cyberpunk 2077 is the most ambitious and controversial video game in history. It will be released on December 10 for Playstation PC, Stadia, and Xbox. We tried it in preview on PC we can tell you that we are facing an unprecedented videogame work, not perfect but designed to keep players nailed for tens of hours inside the most astounding narrative universe ever designed. Get comfortable before reading these first impressions of the game because there is a lot to tell. Starting from the incredible city in which it is set.

Inside Night City

Night City is not Blade Runner's copy of the glamorous and rheotrofuturistic Los Angeles. Inside are neon snippets of Tokyo at night, the degenerate gaze of Strange Days and the violent judgment on the social inequalities of cyberpunk literature. There is a piece of the literary imagery of Richard Morgan (Altered Carbon), Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the shell) and William Gibson (Neuromancer). There is the skeleton of Mike Pondsmith's complex board game to which Cyberpunk 2077. But above all there is the bet won to make an imaginative universe loved by gamers really playable. Having solved the numerous bugs of these first versions of the game, the ability to ground this ambitious videogame project remains to be demonstrated. The Polish development house with this title is a candidate to leave industry giants such as Rockstar and Ubisoft behind.

First impressions

Ride with synthwave sounds in your ears and grafts in your body that make you different and better. The exploration of the megalopolis is to blend into the crowd of a dystopian amusement park which, like a Christmas ball, crystallizes an analog and degenerate future populated by violent bodies and metal and digital potential. Night City is dazzling in its desire to be an anthology of cyberpunk quotes. Nothing really original but all cared for with a style for detail that we rarely find even in large video game productions .

In Cyberpunk it's all violently big.

The map, which also includes numerous other peripheral areas, such as the Badlands, has an extension that seems double that of GtaV. For the first time a verticality is introduced in the exploration of the environments , the interiors are neat and claustrophobic, the intersections of the streets reveal glimpses that promise mystery and adventure. Cyberpunk is truly the first game where getting lost is both inevitable and desirable. According to initial estimates, it could take more than a hundred hours to complete the main mission, the secondary ones and entertain oneself properly in the life of Night City.

History.

In 2077 the world has reached technological singularity, the population is divided into social classes and the bankrupt United States of America is Balkanized, prey to mega-corporations and gangs of thugs and hackers. After nuclear bombings, attacks and famines, it is a disputed and hopeless land. We are V, we are a mercenary contracted to steal the bio-chip of immortality. It will enter our heads, we will discover the truth and from there everything will be clearer.
