Covid: Tokyo towards a possible new state of emergency

Tokyo again updates the record of coronavirus infections on Friday, at 570 on a daily basis, confirming the alarming rise of the disease in what is now defined by experts as the third wave. The new findings exceed the previous limit reached on Saturday, and could lead to an imminent announcement of a state of emergency by the executive, as hinted yesterday by the minister in charge for the health emergency, Yasutoshi Nishimura.

Also on a monthly level, the infections reported since the beginning of November in the capital have settled at 8,567, exceeding the previous record of August, which stood at 8,125. From this Saturday, in line with what has been outlined by the government, the restaurants and bars of the capital will have to stop the sale of alcohol starting at 10pm, for a period of three weeks.
