Gb: government launches code of conduct for web giants

The British government launches a series of measures to contain the influence of web giants, such as Facebook and Google, in various areas including personal data and online advertising. As the London executive announced in a press release, a new code of conduct managed by a 'Digital Markets Unit' was introduced, created to "monitor the behavior of platforms that currently dominate the market".

The newly created unit must work in close contact with the authorities dealing with markets and competition. "Digital platforms like Google and Facebook make a significant contribution to our economy and play a fundamental role in our lives - said the Minister for Productive Activities, Alok Sharma - But the dominance of a few large tech companies is leading to less innovation, higher advertising prices and less choice and control for consumers.
