Distancing from coronavirus, in Singapore drug dealer sentenced to death via Zoom

SINGAPORE. A 37-year-old Malaysian accused of trafficking in heroin was sentenced to death via Zoom in a remote hearing in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. The man - Punithan Genasan - had been referred to by two couriers as the "mind" behind a heroin trafficking. He was hanged on May 15th, but the news only spread today.

Genasan had been found guilty of trafficking in at least 28 grams of heroin: he denied any connection with the two couriers who indicated him as the first culprit of the canteen, and obtained the support of two witnesses. But his line of defense was rejected by High Court judge Chan Seng Onn, and at the end of the hearing through the Zoom platform he was sentenced to hanging.
Judge Chan explained that the couriers had provided detailed and convincing reports, while Punithan had not been able to dismantle the accusation.
