The Wuhan turning point: hunting and the consumption of wild animals prohibited

Wuhan has banned hunting and consumption of wild animal meat for five years, additionally declaring itself a "wildlife sanctuary".

A real turning point due to the way in which the Sars CoV2 made the "jump of species" passing to man and bringing the whole world to its knees.

The city also announced a close on illegal wildlife trade. The new rules, in force since yesterday, are structured on ten points which aim to make licensing more difficult for anyone aiming to breed, hunt or sell wild animals.

In the aftermath of the outbreak, the government decides a temporary ban on wildlife trade in the Wuhan Huanan market, believed to be at the origin of the infection.

The new regulations also protect endangered fauna, prohibit hunting of wild animals, supervise their farms and strengthen advertising and education to protect wildlife.

But exceptions are not lacking, for example in the case of "scientific research, regulation of the fauna population, monitoring of epidemic diseases and other special circumstances".

Since February, China has stepped up its crackdown on illegal hunting and wildlife exploitation, and at the same time has tried to persuade exotic animal breeders to quit their activities in exchange for adequate economic compensation.
