OECD, Europe prepare for the second wave avoiding lockdown

"Europe must better prepare to get out of the new rigorous containment measures" to face the second wave of the coronavirus: this is the appeal launched by the OECD on the occasion of the presentation of the report in Paris' Health at a Glance Europe 2020 '. For the OECD, it is now more than ever "essential that" policy makers plan effective strategies to reopen their economies in order to avoid further lockdowns ".

According to the report released today, this should include much more effective testing, tracking and isolation policies that can be easily followed by citizens, as well as better social distancing measures. Europe, warns the OECD, "has again become a Covid-19 hotspot. As of November 15, 2020, over 10 million people in Europe had been infected and more than 265,000 had died from" the invisible enemy, "with numbers that continue to grow rapidly ". The report stresses, among other things, that "banning large gatherings, encouraging people to telework, obliging them to wear masks in public and encouraging their use in private gatherings involving risk groups as well as strictly limiting capacity in restaurants,
The organization then noted that the coronavirus "disproportionately affected elderly people and people with chronic diseases and that" in many countries, there were at least two months of delay between the first cases reported by Covid-19 and the publication of guidelines to prevent infections in nursing homes "
