Man was imprisoned for 10 years for British backpacker rape and kidnapping

An Australian man who kidnapped, raped, and savagely attacked a British backpacker was imprisoned for ten years.

Liverpool's Elisha Greer told the media that she was repeatedly beaten and raped during her month-long ordeal by her attacker-whom she met at a party in 2017.

Marcus Martin, 24, was sentenced to three counts of rape and one count of deprivation of liberty on Tuesday at the Cairns District Court.

Speaking earlier this month, Ms Greer told Channel 7 in Australia that Martin was initially "like a nice guy."

Before they were both expelled, he moved in with her and forced her on a road trip around Queensland of 1,600 km (994 miles).

Ms Greer described how Martin got hold of a gun that he said was for "protection" and took her to rob a drug dealer along with him.

"With the gun to my head, I was forced to drive the car," she said.

He launched a violent attack later, hit, raped and shocked her until she passed away.

"He turned and just started hitting me, hitting me, hitting me," Ms Greer said.

The controlling behavior of Martin did not stop despite apologizing after each assault.

She told Channel 7 that her attacker had caused terrible injuries: "He broke my nose, split my eyebrow open, I had different amounts of bite marks all over my arms, I had bite marks on my face, he stabbed me in my neck with the key, I had two black eyes, hand prints all over my body from bruises.

She left an unanswered plea for help in a book of visitors during one stop on her journey.

The pair stopped for petrol at a Mitchell service station-about 370 miles (600 km) west of Brisbane-after five days of driving and left without paying.

On the Warrego Highway, police were called and pulled over the car-they found Ms Greer bruised and battered, and Martin was hiding in the back seat.
