A man who fired near the White House died of his wounds, the U.S. Police in the park said Thursday.
On Wednesday, authorities said, the man set himself on fire on the Ellipse, a popular tourist area between the White House and the Washington Monument.
The man, who was identified as Arnav Gupta, was taken to the hospital and later died that night, said the Park Police.
The investigation was turned over to the Department of Metropolitan Police, the Park Police said. An MPD representative did not respond to a request for comment immediately.
It was the second such incident in two months when, after litting his jacket on fire outside the White House fence, a man was hospitalized in an electric mobility scooter.
