Hainan opens more offshore duty-free shops

 The island province of Hainan, in southern China, will open two more offshore duty-free shopping centers to promote tax-free consumption. This was stated by the municipal trade office of Haikou, the provincial capital.

    After completion of the works this year, the two new stores are scheduled to open next year, bringing the total number of Haikou offshore duty-free shops to four.
    The two existing stores are now expanding, with the commercial area of ​​the airport one reaching 9,000 square meters. The province currently has four duty-free shops, with the other two located in Sanya and Bo'ao.
    From July 1 to October 31, sales of offshore duty-free shops in the province exceeded 12 billion yuan (about $ 1.8 billion), an increase of 214.1 percent over the same period last year. , after the province increased its annual tax-free shopping quota from 30,000 to 100,000 yuan per person on July 1.
