British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is preparing to confirm that the lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus throughout England will end on December 2. His office announced it.
The lockdown will be followed by a return to a series of three-tiered regional restrictions as part of the government's "COVID Winter Plan".
The official announcement should be made on Monday. A Downing Street spokesperson said the current restrictions have "helped bring the virus back under control" and "eased the pressure on the NHS (National Health Service)."
However, the government has also warned that without regional restrictions the virus would wreak havoc before plans for vaccine distribution and mass testing have time to take effect.
